If you weren't who you are, what would you like to be? The scent of a rose, replied Richard Wagner.
And if you were in Venice today, wouldn't you like to discover what Venice was like in the past too? Everything is possible. So if you would like to follow the great composer's advice and enjoy a unique emotion, then treat yourself to a Wagnerian Dinner.
The pleasure of enjoying the unique sensorial experience of listening to the great composer's music while discovering a highly refined menu makes for an evening with a unique lost and found flavour.
The dinner begins with oysters and "champagne", one of the great composer's great loves, declared as early as 1835. This is followed by a cured meat hors d'oeuvres in memory of the dinner shared with the revolutionary leader, Bakunin. To celebrate Wagner's time in Venice the meal proceeds with "risi e bisi" (green pea risotto), also known as the "Dish of the Doges". Salmon "en croute", a favourite of nineteenth century courts, follows and then, respecting the order of banquets from this period, the game course is presented. Pheasant served with its feathers (as many portraits of Richard Wagner depict him with pheasant feathers in his hat) and accompanied by locally grown vegetable dishes. A mountain cheese platter is of course a must, and then ice cream (that the composer enjoyed at the famous "Florian" cafe) with "baicoli" biscuits and Wagner's much loved almond brittle. Alto Adige wines have been selected to accompany the dinner, whereas the dessert wines are from the neighbouring Friuli region.
Buon appetito!
